What are Fields?
Fields will NOT appear for analysis within the reports. If you are looking for to set up information which needs to pull through to the reports (such as specific areas of strength), we recommend creating a Focus Area with an Outcome Set instead. Check out this guide for more information - Creating Focus Areas for Templates (Admin) |
Fields can be added to a template to record information that is relevant to individual records, but not to overall analysis. Information captured using fields will pull through to the Records area but will not pull through to the reports. There are four types of fields available to create:
- Text (e.g. Lesson topic, signatures)
- Numerical (e.g. number of TAs, number of pupils/attendees present, etc.)
- Dropdown (e.g. period, ability range, lesson plan seen?)
- Label (e.g. prompts or instructions when completing/viewing a record)
Creating Fields
To create a field, navigate to Admin > Templates > Field > then click Create Field.
You will then be able to enter a name for your field, and select whether you want to create a Text, Numerical, Dropdown List, or Label field. Click on the tab for the type you want to create. Below we have provided overviews of each.
Text Fields
When creating a Text Field, you are able to select the size of text box you want to create, e.g. Small Textbox, Large Textbox, Large Paragraph, etc.). Simply select the option you want, and click Create at the bottom of the page. Fields will not pull through to the reports, so if you are looking to view comments within the reports, we would recommend creating this as a Focus Area with a comment box instead.
Numerical Fields
When selecting Numerical, this will create a small textbox size field, that will only accept numerical values between 0 and 999 (including decimals). All you need to do is make sure a Field Name has been entered, and click Create.
Dropdown List
When selecting Dropdown List, you're able to enter up to 20 items to appear in the list. You need to enter at least 2 to be able to create it. Once you have entered all you need, click Create. Fields will not pull through to the reports, so if you are looking to analyse the selections from a drop down within the reports, we strongly recommend creating this as a Focus Area instead with an associated outcome set.
Label
When selecting Label, you can enter the text you want to appear as a prompt or instruction to help guide staff through completing each part of a record if needed, and click Create.
Once you have created your Fields, they will be available to select when creating your templates. For more information on see our dedicated section - Building Templates (Admin)
